Sam Allardyce brands UK’s reliance on food banks a ‘disgrace’

Sam Allardyce has branded the growing number of food banks in Britain a national disgrace after visiting one in his role as Everton manager this week.

Allardyce, together with assistant Sammy Lee, donated food on behalf of the club to the North Liverpool Foodbank on Thursday. Supporters of Everton and Liverpool have held regular collections for the facility, one of 428 operated within the Trussell Trust Network, having set up the Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative. Three wards surrounding Goodison Park are among the poorest in Europe, with up to 42% of families living under the Living Wage Foundation’s poverty line.

I agree with Sam....

I agree they're a national disgrace.

I'd rather the 'poor' starved to death.

Happy Christmas.

If the poor didn’t smoke, have mobiles, Sky, broadband and other such luxuries they might be able to afford a bag of pasta.

Re: Food Banks
I do support football clubs' charitable initiatives when it comes to moral support, raising awareness, making sick kids happy etc. But when any start banging on about poverty in general I tend to think one thing: Oh, do fuck off you greedy bunch of image rights offshore narcissistic cunts.

Wonder what Sam donated. A spare pint of wine perhaps?

Re: Food Banks
People choose to use foodbanks. Nobody in Britain needs to rely on them. They are all part of the fake poverty propaganda campaign being run by The Guardian and comrade Corbs

Your Christmas message is very succinct this year, Matron.

If you contribute, don't do it in kind. Give them money. They can buy a lot more with any given dollar than you can.

50p buys you The Sun or The Mail, then you don't have to read about it, you can just be ignorant to anything negative, unless you like blaming the immigrants for everything of course...

Re: Food Banks
I don't much relate to those earning multi millions, whilst tax avoiding and then pontificating

I also don't much relate to the poor fuckers that life, systemic neglect and sheer bad luck have served a bad hand - including many ex forces lads

Finally, I don't much relate to my kids, whilst being hugely proud of them and wishing I were perhaps more like them ....

Both extremely well qualified, my son reading law - so that he can help those that can't help themsleves and my daughter, who works in social services on the front line and spends her time dealing with infants who have been arsed raped, youths drug dependant and various social 'flotsum' that I by nature find it easy to pass by on account of my taxes

Daughter has been delivering food and gifts coerced from major corporations to the real needy and unfortunates - making a difference

Responsible capitalism should always have a place for supporting those most in need, failure to do so fails the principal and that's from one of the most blatantly right wing posters on this board

Not quite so strange in that context that I tend to agree with the like sof Ray and Fo so frequently

Re: Food Banks
Food banks have been set up solely to undermine this compassionate conservative administration. As is explained on this thread food banks are unnecessary because everyone has a well paid job.

Re: Food Banks
Crassus- if your son becomes a bleeding heart solicitor or barrister he will be very well paid via Legal Aid (i.e. the tax payer). He'd be another individual making a good living, feeding off the welfare industry. I don't mean this unkindly. Just weary of all this nonsense.
